MUGELLO:

There are a lot of interesting sights to see in all the characteristic villages of Mugello, as the Medicean Villas and Castels. There are many villas and castles that belonged to the Medici family and to the Renaissance era as the family traced its roots back to the Mugello. For example, there is the Park and Villa Demidoff in Vaglia, the Palazzo dei Vicari (Vicar Palace) in Scarperia, and the Villa di Cafaggiolo in Barberino di Mugello.

Mugello is also characterized by its many small villages and towns waiting to be discovered. Many of them still organize fairs and events dedicated to the local food traditions and crafts that are produced in the territory.

VALLOMBROSA:

Vallombrosa, in the countryside south of Florence at Reggello (Tuscany) is best known for the ancient monastery that stands here - often referred to as Vallombrosa Abbey, which contains many intersting works of art. The abbey-monastery is on the edge of a beautiful forest that also takes the name of the of the abbey.

GARFAGNANA:

Garfagnana is a beautiful area in northwestern Tuscany, in the province of and to the north of the city of Lucca. It confines with the areas known as Lunigiana, Lucchesia and Versilia, to name just some of the better known areas.

The Garfagnana is crossed in its entirety by the Serchio River, which contributes to the lush green valleys you’ll get to experience here. These set the harmonious contrast with the wild mountains that surround the area: to the east/northeast, the Apennines and to the west, the Apuan Alps. These offer visitors plenty of choices among outdoor activities: hiking, walking and mountain biking, in addition to spending time visiting the many enchanting and charming villages and other attractions found in the area. From Castelnuovo Garfagnana to Barga, from the Wind Cave (the Grotta del Vento) to the legendary Devil’s Bridge in Borgo a Mozzano to the ghost town of Vagli di Sotto, there are many places and picturesque villages waiting to to be discovered during your time in the Garfagnana valley in TuscaNY.

CRETE SENESI

Crete Senesi, which literally means Siennese Clays, is the name of the area to the south of Siena. This is a great place to go to if you are looking for some peaceful time. This is an area mainly characterised by pure and untouched nature; hills, woods, waters and a semi-desert, breaking up the green landscape that is typical of Tuscany.

As you can see in the picture at the end of the page the clays appeared as a lunar landscape; this area was covered by sea about 2,5 million years ago.

A great amount of picturesque villages can also be found here, however. A good example of such a village would be Asciano, where you will find a variety of historical monuments. But also Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme and San Giovanni d'Asso are worth a visit.

In this area you can find several spa's as well, for some extra relaxation. In other words Crete Senesi is the perfect place to stop your mind just for a while and to forget about the rest of the world for a couple of days.
