VILLA GABRIELLI AL GIANICOLO IN ROME
Villa Gabrielli
al Gianicolo is an urban villa in Rome, whose perimeter is today the
offices of the Pontifical North American College, the Pontifical Urban
College of Propaganda Fide and the Pontifical Urbanian University.
After
the Second World War, which had become insufficient for the various
seminaries in Rome, it was decided to transfer to Villa Gabrielli all
the activities of the Pontifical North American College of Education and
form Catholic priests.
The College welcomes
seminarians and priests of US nationality, though students of other
nationalities may be exceptionally admitted.
At
the signing of the Lateran Pact (1929), the entire territory of the
villa was included among the extraterritorial areas of the Vatican City,
a situation that still persists today.
Since
April 2014, along with other eleven properties, it has obtained the
privilege of extraterritoriality and the exemption from expropriations
and tributes.
