MONUMENT-TOMB OF ANITA GARIBALDI ROME
The monument-tomb of Anita Garibaldi is a great equestrian statue located in Rome on the Gianicolo.
The
bronze statue is one of the most celebrated episodes of Anita
Garibaldi's existence, depicting him on horseback, with the gun in his
fist and supporting his newborn son, Menotti, while trying to escape
capture in the camp of São Luís, encircled by imperial troops during the Farrapos War.
The pedestal nut is adorned, on its four sides, by bronze panels
depicting, in high relief, episodes of which Anita was the protagonist:
The two panels east and south make up a single scene where Anita leads a training of soldiers marching into the Pampas.
The west-facing panel represents Anita looking for Garibaldi's
body in the falls of the Battle of Curitibanos, where she believed the
hero of the two worlds had been hit.
The north-facing panel depicts Anita hanging at Garibaldi during the escape in the Valleys of Comacchio.
