CAVE OF NYMPHS CERCHIARA DI CALABRIA
Cerchiara di Calabria
is an Italian municipality of 2 385 inhabitants in the province of
Cosenza, located in the Pollino National Park, with a territorial
extension reaching 1.439 m asl. Just outside the village lies the
Cave of Nymphs mentioned by Homer, an ancient source of sulphurous
water that forms therapeutic sludge and which is now emerging in a
thermal swimming pool.
The sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Armi is
one of the most valuable monuments of medieval origin in Calabria. It
is located in the territory of Cerchiara di Calabria at the slopes of
Mount Sellaro at 1015 m s.l.m. With extraordinary views over the
plains of Sibari and the Gulf of Taranto.
