LORICA OF SILA GRANDE SAN GIOVANNI IN FIORE
Lorica is a resort of Sila Grande. The territory of the resort falls into three different municipalities of the province of Cosenza San Giovanni in Fiore and Pedace Serra Pedace. The town is situated in the territory of the first two municipalities, while in the territory of the third only lies the ski lift and the related services. The village is located at 1315 meters s.l.m..
The name comes from the Latin "Lorica" (breastplate), and could be interpreted as a safe place, insurmountable, to hide and protect themselves from potential adversaries or enemies, but as there is no reliable data about the discovery of signs and artefacts which may indicate the presence man since ancient origins, the term should refer natural look of the area, such as a plant stronghold, in the past centuries it appeared to man as a waterproof habitats, narrow and wild. There is also a popular legend that tells, according to the etymology of the names, which in Lorica, was found the armor of a knight of old, in the "knight".
