Benedict Civiletti (1845-1899)

Supreme Palermitano sculptor. Student of Benedict Delisi and Dupre. It was the greatest exponent of the realist style; He worked a lot in his short life and produced with extraordinary fecundity. Twenty-eight made the group 'Canaris' celebrating Greek Independence: Group awarded a gold medal in Paris, and won him great honor in Italy and abroad. His last work, "The Tragedy" (lion looking to the right) of the staircase of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo: the work of superb design. brilliant artist, master of line and touch, disseminated in public squares, in cemeteries and out of works of undisputed value Sicily.
